The government has honoured athletes winning medals during different international competitions last year.

The total of 109 athletes, who won gold, silver and bronze medals in various international tournaments under 14 categories, were honoured amid a programme organised by the National Sports Council (NSC) in the Capital on Thursday.

Those who claimed gold were awarded with Rs 20,000 each, while those getting got silver were provided Rs 15,000 each and Rs 10,000 each to the bronze medallist.

Those honoured include Taekwondo players Nisha Rawal, Kajal Siwakoti, Bablu Siwakoti, Asmita Khadka and Rajan Bhattarai.

Other honoured are karate players Purushottam Pokharel and kick boxers Rijan Thapa Magar, Binda Nepali, Arati Tamang and Santosh Khadka.

Meanwhile, NSC Member-Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista honoured Maheshwor Maharjan, who won gold medal in the 50th Asian Body Building Championship in Thimpu, Bhutan on Tuesday.
