24 August, KATHMANDU: Some 162,813 voters were registered in the voters’ roll of the Election Commission under the seven-day special voters’ registration process that came to an end on Friday, according  EC officials.

A total of 54,518 voters registered their names in the voters’ list on Friday alone. District Election Office, Kathmandu, registered 9,988 voters, the highest among the districts. The figure was based on preliminary data and it could slightly go up when the data is thoroughly analysed on Saturday.

The EC is yet to get full data from Morang, Jhapa, Kaski and Chitwan districts. Election offices in some districts have given coupons to the voters who had stood in the queue but could not be registered due to lack of time on Friday. They are being registered on Saturday.

Earlier, the EC had registered 12.3 million voters under the normal procedure.
