14 march,Kathmandu: One of the thorniest issues of the peace process- allotment of the ranks to the former fighters of the Maoist party, who are in Nepal Army’s training under the integration process- has been finally settled by the Army Integration Special Committee on Wednesday night after the big four political powers struck an 11-point deal.

The AISC meeting held late night following the political agreement has decided to award the posts of Nepal Army officers to 71 former fighters of the Maoist party who are undergoing training.

Among them, one is to be awarded the post of colonel while 13 major, 30 captain, and 25 lieutenants, said AISC member and Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun following the meeting.

Similarly, among others in the training, 14 will be given the posts of warrant officer-1 while 790 will be at the entry-level post in the NA.

Another AISC member Bhim Rawal said the AISC meeting also decided to recommend lifting the ban on Nepal Army from purchasing weapons imposed by the Comprehensive Peace Accord.

Earlier, the cabinet meeting had decided to extend the AISC term till mid-April, 2013
