17 August, Kathmandu: Nepali actor Sunil Thapa, who is also known as ‘Rate Kaila’ in the Nepali film industry, has been awarded the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at an international film festival held in San Francisco, United States of America (USA).

Actor Thapa, who forayed into film sector from acting in the Hindi movies but went on to become a household name through his negative role in Nepali movies, was conferred the award amid the award-conferring function – the Festival of Globe.

The festival has been organized by the Federation of Indo Americans in the USA since two decades. The Festival honored Thapa for his outstanding contribution to the film sector.

Hollywood actor Jackie Chan and Martin Sin, Bollywood musician and singer Bappi Lahiri and a Vietnamese actress were also honored with the lifetime achievement award at the function.

Nepali artistes were participating in the Festival for the first time. Of the total films from 30 countries, Nepali films like ‘Chocolate and Tata Bye-Bye’ also shared the screen in the Festival. RSS
