30 March, Kathmandu: Coordinator of the Naya Shaktai Party Nepal, Dr Baburam Bhattarai, has said the first need at present was the amendment of the constitution.

Election could be held after amendment, he underscored.
During a press meet about the full meeting of the federal council of his party here today, coordinator Bhattarai said, “Election after constitution amendment could help incorporate all political parties.”

He threatened that his party would not let the election occur if it was not given election symbol. Coming local election would be the historic one, for it is being held after the achievement of federal democratic republic.

“Without election symbol, Naya Shakti won’t go for election. It must be conferred on the election symbol- ‘eye’,” he said, arguing that bone of contention among the political parties was the federal issue and some contents in constitution.

Spokesperson of the party, Khim Lal Devkota, said his party had floated six minimum conditions including constitution amendment, announcement of special, reservation and autonomous area, all-party government, and all three-tier elections at the same time.

He also warned that his party would launch struggle if the six conditions were not heeded.
