A temporary Bailey bridge over the Sunkoshi river at Phoksingtar has been removed, cutting off transportation on the shortest road link with Tarai districts from the district.
The Bailey bridge linked Lichki Ramche VDC to the south of Khotang district with Aanptaar VDC of Udayapur district. The bridge lied along the Mahurey-Phoksingtar road section.
Direct transport service to Tarai districts and other districts from Khotang from Mahurey-Phoksingtar road has been broken with the removal of the bridge. The Bailey bridge was constructed at Phoksingtar for use only during the winter when the river level is low. It is removed with the start of the rainy season when the river level rises.
The construction company that has been awarded the contract for constructing a cement and concrete bridge at Phoksingtar has not yet started the construction works, even two years after the foundation stone for the bridge was laid. RSS
