As many as 587 people were diagnosed with cancer, cardiac and kidney related ailments in Jhapa during current fiscal year, according to the Jhapa District Public Health Office.

Number of cancer patients is on top in the list. Among total 238 cancer patients 126 are female and 112 are male. In last fiscal year 237 people were found with cancer disease in Jhapa.

Likewise, 131 people were diagnosed with cardiac related diseases as of June 23 of the current fiscal year. Out of them 60 are female and 71 are male. Last year the number of cardiac patients was 122.

The cancer and cardiac diseases have become formidable in Jhapa of late. Number of kidney patients is 69 according to the data of Jhapa District Public Health Office. 20 of them are female and 49 male. It was only 66 last year, said Office In-charge Chandra Dev Mehata.

People with age from 5-74 years come to the office for recommendations after the government announced to provide support up to Rs 100,000 for the treatment of these non-communicable diseases, said Office In-charge Mehata.

He also shared that the number of patients afflicting from the diseases has increased this year compared to the last fiscal. RSS
