22 June, Bhojpur: Women’s representation in the major posts up for grabs in the June 28 second phase of local elections is found to be minimal across Bhojpur district.

There has been nomination filed for the post of Mayor by a woman candidate in only one municipality in the district. Despite tall claims of equality by the parties, women have been confined to the position of deputy mayor and vice-chair only.

Though the parties talk about women’s issues a lot women candidates have been limited only to the post of deputy mayor, vice-chair and women members, said rights activist Kamala Basnet.

The lone woman candidate for the post of Mayor is Shishira Rai, who is contesting on behalf of the Nepali Congress in Pauwadumma village municipality. RSS
