23 Dec, Lumbini:

Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel has said that political consensus and constitution amendment were the options to resolve Madhes problems and other disputes.

At a programme of publicity campaign of the new constitution at Bhairahawa on Wednesday, Minister Poudel asked the agitating parties to adopt any one of the two options.

Saying that constitution was promulgated through the Constituent Assembly (CA) with due process, Poudel asked the agitating Madhesi parties to come for consensus. He was of the view that the government, opposition parties and the agitating parties should make political consensus regarding the delineation of the provinces.

Arguing that constitution was not a religious script, the Finance Minister said that constitution is a flexible document and thus could be changed based on time and context. He said that the new constitution has ensured constituencies based on geography and population as well as inclusive proportional representation in all state organs.

On the occasion, lawmaker Abdul Rajjak underscored the need for familiarizing the constitution as it has ensured rights of all.
Rajjak added that it was necessary to take the constitution among the people to end the misconception about the citizenship ensured in the new constitution. RSS
