25 April, Bhaktapur: The CPN (UML) is to draw attention of the Election Commission (EC), objecting the statement expressed by the EC that the second-phase local-level elections could be held after bringing the budget for the fiscal year 2074/075 BS.

A meeting of the party Standing Committee held at the residence of the party Chairman KP Sharma Oli at Balkot on Tuesday drew the EC’s attention to that end and decided to register a written complaint over it at the EC.

Sharing the decision of the meeting to media persons, UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai said, “The CPN (UML) determines that trying to hold the local-level elections in two phases at the interval of a month and the plan of holding the elections after budget in most of the provinces is a conspiracy. The CPN (UML) has decided not to accept the decision of holding the election after budget programme at any cost. “

He said that the CPN (UML) was in favour of holding the elections before the budget announcement if the elections were necessary to hold in two phases.

He further said that the ruling parties have been making plan to seek votes at the ground of the budget after presenting it on May 29 and added that the CPN (UML) has demanded to hold the elections of two-phases before budget announcement. The UML has also stood against the government move to increase the local units.

Meanwhile, the meeting also decided not to allow the amendment of the constitution bill registered by the government at the Legislature-Parliament Secretariat.

The next meeting scheduled on Wednesday would hold discussion on selection of candidates for the local-level elections and would discuss the party election manifesto, it is learnt. RSS
