10 March,Agency: Just weeks ahead of April 5 Presidential elections, Afghanistan’s Taliban on Monday warned to disrupt the polls by attacking all those involved in the elections.
In a statement, the militant outfit said it won’t spare voters, security men, polling officials or any other workers associated with the elections and direct its forces to target them to disrupt the process, according to the AFP,
“We have given orders to all our mujahideen to use all force at their disposal to disrupt these upcoming sham elections — to target all workers, activists, callers, security apparatus and offices,” the AFP quoted the militants’ statement.
The Taliban further warned all Afghans to stay away from and derail the elections – which the militant outfit called as “the latest plot of the invaders”.
Threatening the Afghans not to participate in the elections, the Taliban said that the citizens would themselves be responsible for any repercussions in future if they did vote or help in the polls.
“It is the religious obligation of every Afghan to fulfil their duty by foiling the latest plot of the invaders that is guised in the garb of elections.”
“If anyone still persist in participating then they are solely responsible for any loss in the future,” the Taliban said.
Taliban threats comes as it is just less than one month to go until the presidential vote on April 5.
Also, the efforts to initiate the peace talks hit a roadblock as in Feb, Taliban killed 21 Afghan soldiers in Kunar province and suspended a planned exchange of Taliban and US prisoners.
Afghanistan is still struggling to keep itself safe from the scourge of insurgency will be on its own once NATO troops withdraw from the country by the end of 2014.
