18 Nov, Kathmandu: The Election Commission (EC) has urged the government to announce public holiday in view of the election to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies.

The EC asked the government to announce public holiday on November 26 in 32 districts, where the first-phase of election has been scheduled, while in 45 districts on December 7 where the second round of election is taking place.

EC Spokesperson Nabaraj Dhakal said that the EC has urged the Home Ministry to make arrangement for the public holiday.

A press release issued by the EC stated that the EC also urged the government to close the educational institutions for four days beginning from November 23 in the districts where the first-round of elections are being held as well as from December 4 in the remaining districts.

Meanwhile, the EC said that no special separate arrangements to issue pass to the media persons for news collection and visualization of voting and vote counts has been made. The media persons can collect the news on the basis of identity card issued by the Department of Information, Dhakal said. RSS
