23 Feb, Biratnagar: Energy Minister Janardan Sharma on Wednesday said a new energy revolution has begun in the country.

“There is no alternative to a revolution in energy sector to make progress in industrial sector,” he said while inaugurating Birat Expo, 2073 organised in Biratnagar by the Industry Association, Morang.

Work was underway to start four or five reservoir-based projects within the current fiscal year, he informed.

He also said the process to generate electricity from Saptakoshi river by controlling flows of Bhote, Tamor and Arun rivers to Saptakoshi will be initiated. “And as a result of this, downstream human settlements will also be saved from flooding.”

Minister Sharma urged industrialists based in Biratnagar to operate big industries in the industrial city as electricity to be produced from the river would be used fully in the east itself.

Likewise on the occasion, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Pashupati Murarka said there had been an increasing risk of industrial bankruptcy due to increment in bank interest rate up to four times this year.

Morang Merchant Association Chairman and lawmaker Paban Sarada, the Association central vice chairman Sherkhar Golcha and industrialists Kishor Pradhan and Chandi Dhakal also spoke at the event.

The expo has a total of 254 stalls showcasing items of industrial and agricultural production, electronic appliances, food items, hand-made items, components and parts of automobiles, agricultural tools and items of information technology among others. RSS
