Minister for Foreign Affairs Mahendra Bahadur Pandey on Wednesday said the supply of essential goods and services to least developed landlocked country could not be disrupted under any pretext.

Arriving at the Tribhuvan International Airport after attending the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Minister Pandey said “No country can deprive a least developed landlocked country of its right.”

Adding that he had broached the matter before the Indian External Affairs Minister on the sidelines of the UNGA in New York, Minister Pandey said he had vigorously raised the issue during talks with the international community.

Minister Pandey said he drew serious attention of the Indian External Minister over the disruption of essential supplies towards Nepal in presence of the top ranking officials of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. He added that the Indian Minister had assured of supplying the essential goods to the border with Nepal.
During a separate talk with Minister Pandey, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had also raised curiosity if Nepal-India relations had dampened. The Minister said he responded saying that India took such a step after being misguided by false information provided by some individuals.

The UN Secretary General congratulated the Nepali government and the people on the historic achievement of promulgation of the new constitution and stressed on implementing the constitution.
Minister Pandey said he also held separate talks with his counterparts from various countries and UN high officials discussing ways to promote country’s interests and talked of the new constitution and its salient features. RSS
