14 August, Bardiya: Floods have caused inundation in several places of Bardiya district as the Babai River here swelled following the incessant rainfall for three days.

Places as Jamaniya , Ghor Pittal, Kamadaha, Jhapkipur, Beshattpur, Dhungrahi, Lathahuwa, Bhaisakhani, Ranipur, Barbata, Goranwa, Jamjhi and Khuntipur in the districts are submerged in the water, according to the District Police Office, Bardiya.

Sabani Thang, 23, of Thakur Baba Municipality in the district died after his house collapsed in the flood, said Bharat Bohora, Chief of DPO, Bardiya.

Meanwhile, Minister for Home Affairs Janardan Sharma and Minister for Livestock Development Shanta Kumar Tharu made an onsite visit to various flood-hit areas in the district.

During the inspection, Minister Sharma instructed the concerned local authorities for delivering earliest relief and rescue operation in those areas.

The security agencies such as Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police among others have been undertaking the rescue of the flood-survivors.

Home Minister Sharma, in the meeting of the District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee following the in-site visit, also said that the government would launch immediate relief programmes for the flood-survivors.

He also instructed the Chiefs of the security agencies in the district to utilize all the resources and forces available for the rescue and relief of the flood-victims.

Meanwhile, the Indian side has left the door of the Laxmanpur Dam half open at the request of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Krishna Bahadur Mahara.

The Dam lies in the bordering place between Nepal and India. Talks to open the door of the Dam wide enough is ongoing between the officials of Nepal and India, according to the Assistant Chief District Officer, Bardiya, Krishna Bahadur Khadka. RSS
