At the policy and program for the fiscal year 2014-15 tabled by the government at the Legislature-Parliament Sunday, the government has brought out the program involving common people in afforestation and forest conservation.

In order to ensure the access of all communities to forest resources, community,
collaborative and leasehold forest programs will be further expanded, states the government’s policy document unveiled by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav.

“Afforestation in private land will be encouraged. Necessary support will be provided to individuals and groups willing to plant trees in the public and open areas. Transportation and use of forest yields produced in the private land will be made simpler”, the document added.

As per the policy and program, ‘The President Chure Tarai Madhesh Program’ will be formulated and implemented with a new vision and Institutional mechanism to manage Chure area by establishing linkages with upper and lower belts and to make ‘The President Chure Conservation Program’ more effective by framing an integrated action plan for watershed and river systems.

Endangered and highly threatened species of flora and fauna will be preserved, the document stated, adding that a national campaign will be launched for controlling wildfire and for fighting poaching and illegal trade of wildlife, deforestation and forest encroachments.

“By expanding the wildlife conservation areas, income oriented programs will be launched to uplift the living standards of the people living nearby forests”, the policy document noted.
