The Ministry of Health is to fulfil the vacant post for 485 doctors within the next three months by appointing specialist doctors.
Sharing his highly ambitious plan for overall reforms in the health sector to RSS, Minister for Health Gagan Thapa said the appointment will start through a contract process until the required procedures are fulfilled for permanent appointment through the Public Service Commission. “Not only deputing them to the vacant posts in hospitals and health centres, but provision shall also be made for incentives to retain them in the posts,” Minister Thapa said.
He also said that the health services will be made effective by ensuring that every health post has at least two doctors and three nurses, in additional to other technical human resources.
The health insurance programme currently piloted from five districts will be expanded to all the 75 districts. For this a Bill relating to Health Insurance will be tabled before the Council of Ministers soon. Health insurance for the person with disabilities, elderly, single women and orphans will be free, Minister Thapa said.
Minister Thapa shared that free kidney dialysis service will begin from 18 government hospitals outside the valley soon. The free service is currently available only in Kathmandu valley.
Meanwhile, preparations for amendment to the human organ transplantation regulations have been completed to ensure liver and other organ transplantation in Nepal. Liver transplantation will begin immediately after the amendment process is completed, said Chief of the Human Organ Transplantation Centre, Bhaktapur Dr Pukar Chandra Shrestha.
Health Minister also told RSS that the process to amend the health workers and health institutions security Act, 2066 has begun while the provision related to medical treatment of VIPs is being reviewed, and the provision relating to medical treatment of the poor citizens is also being organized.
Other procedural developments include amendment of the Health Service Act, drafting of the Public Health Act and Insurance Act, process of drafting the Reproductive Health Act, amendment of Doctors Mobilization Guidelines, review of Ambulance Policy and preparation of a standard for appointments under the Health Ministry.
