24 May, Solukhumbhu: An Indian woman from Arunachal Province in India has set a new record in mountaineering history by climbing the Mount Everest twice within a span of five days.
With this, the 37-year-old woman has broken the record of Nepal’s Chuurim Sherpa who had scaled the highest mountain in the world twice in a week some years ago.
Jamsenpa first made it to the top of the 8,848-metre tall mountain on May 16’s morning followed by her second ascent on May 21, according to Gyanendra Shrestha, Liaison Officer deployed by the Department of Tourism at the Everest Base Camp,.
“Jamsenpa had paid twice the royalty, USD 22,000, to the DoT for her double ascent in a single season while applying for the permit to climb the Everest,” informed Liaison Officer Shrestha.
Earlier in 2011, she had summited the Everest, locally known as Sagarmatha in Nepali, twice within 10 days.
The mother of two has already climbed the Mt Everest for the fifth time including her latest record-breaking feat. RSS
