14 August, Kathmandu: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Prakashman Singh has said India’s 60 years’ experience of federalism could be useful for Nepal as it is entering into the federal setup.

Addressing a discussion programme on Indian Experience on Nepal’s Federal organised by Asian Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs, DPM Singh was in view of following merits of federal model adopted by other countries including India.

There was no alternative before Nepal to deliver the new constitution on time by sorting out the disputed issues including demarcation of federal units, he added.

Former Ambassador of India to Nepal KV Rajan, India’s expert on Nepal’s affairs Ashok Kumar Mehata, Institute founder Sunil KC and Dr Pramod Jaysawal said federalism is a new matter for Nepal and good experiences of other countries could be useful for it.
