4 Sept, Jumla: The Karnali Academy of Health Sciences is reeling under shortage of oxygen due to repeated obstruction of the Karnali highway.

The short supply of oxygen struck the medical institute after a vehicle supplying oxygen cylinders got stranded along the highway since the past one week. At least 15 orthopaedic patients have been forced to wait for surgery due to lack of oxygen, Medical Director Dr Pujan Rokaya said.

The Karnali highway was blocked after a landslide fell over the Gagane river in Kalikot. “All the cylinders that we brought are unable to continue from the Gagane river. We have only two cylinders left from the available stock,” Dr Rokaya added.

The doctor further shared that the medical institute will have to refer the patients to hospitals located outside the district if the cylinders do not arrive within two to four days.

Kalikot’s Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Subash Bohara, said efforts were underway to clear the landslide debris along 5o metre stretch. RSS
