The locals of Thulipokhari village, who have suffered long enough for drinking water, are now upbeat about a new technology set up to quench their thirst.
The villagers can now fetch water from a river located more than 500 metres below and an hour’s walking distance. With the consumers’ active participation, 90 per cent of the project for installing a lift is now complete.
The District Drinking Water and Sanitation Sub Division Office-Parbat has contributed in running the Thulopokhari Drinking Water Project. A total of 100 households in three VDCs located uphill will benefit from the project.
Preparations are being made to complete the project by mid October and all the necessary materials are in place to complete the task in the specified time, Sub Division Office’s Chief, Prakash Dotel said.
All the infrastructures needed for the project has been prepared, and the electric and distribution line related works will be completed soon so that we can set up a network of taps before October, he added.
The Division has projected the total cost of setting up the drinking water supply line at Rs 14.6 million. The water located 560 meters below will be scooped up with help of a lift and stored at a water tank at Batulechaur before being distributed to every household.
The villagers had been forced to rely on rainwater during the monsoon and a pail of water fetched after an hour’s walk during winter. RSS
