24 April, Kathmandu: The Election Commission (EC) has endorsed the schedule for the first and second rounds of local level elections slated for coming May 14 and June 14 respectively.

At a press meet organized by EC in the capital on Monday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav informed that the amendment has been made on election programme from filing candidacy to granting of election symbol in regard to the first phase of civic polls and programmes for second phase polls have been endorsed.

According to the EC, May 2 is the fresh date set for filing of nomination of candidates and publishing of candidates’ list, May 3 for lodging complaint against the candidates, verifying the nomination letter and May 4 for publishing list of candidates nominated and withdrawing candidacy.

Likewise, May 5 has been set for disclosing final name list of candidates, May 6 for granting election symbol and May 14 (Sunday) for voting. Voting will take place from 7.00 am to 5.00 pm during the day.

For the second phase elections, the EC has set June 2 for registering nomination of candidates and publishing list of candidates nominated, June 3 for filing complaint against candidates and June 4 for making public the list of candidates and withdrawing candidacy, EC sources added.

CEC Yadav further informed that the vote count will start after receiving all ballot boxes from Returning Officers following the completion of voting in all polling centres of the rural municipalities and municipalities. RSS
