2 Feb, Solukhumbu: Most of the health centres are facing a shortage of essential medicines since long in the district. A local Shyam Bishwakarma of Nele of the district has complained that he was compelled to return empty handed after reaching a local health post due to lack of medicine.

Despite government’s strong instructions to the concerned bodies not allow the shortage of medicines to disrupt services, the health centres are yet to receive the cost-free medicines provided by the government.

According to locals, the health centres does not have even cetamol, amoxicillin and metro tablets and contraceptive devices among other essential medicines.

According to the District Public Health Office, Information officer Pawan Lama, the shortage has hit the district hospital itself due to budget crunch, the concerned authorities have not been able to supply the medicines to the rural areas.

Health workers have complained that over 22 kinds of cost-free medicines are shortage in most of the health centres, however, 34 types of medicines were said to be provided free of cost.

Due to it, patients in the district have been forced to buy the cost-free medicines as well. RSS
