Minister for Youth and Sports, Daljit Shripaili, today spoke of his objective to prepare a base allowing ‘a player to lead a life as a player’.

During a farewell ceremony for athletes taking part in the 42nd Chess Olympiad and 16th Paralympics, Minister Shripaili said, “From now onwards we will be revamping the Nepali sports sector with policy and system, so that you can be proud of being a player.”

The Minister added that he was now making an effort to create an environment in which players can see the officials as guardians.

A total of 10 players are leaving for Baku of Azerbaijan on Wednesday to take part in the ‘Chess Olympiad’ to be held from September 1 to 14.

The players include Keshav Shrestha, Bhupendra Niraula, Sajin Maharjan, Bimal Lal Shrestha and Chitij Bhandari in men’s category and Shanta Thapa, Sindira Joshi, Monalisa Khumbu, Srijana Lohani and Ashimita Adhikari in women’s category.

The Nepali team will leave for Brazil to take part in the Paralympics to be held from September 7 to 18. Laxmi Kunwar will compete in the swimming contest while Bikram Bahadur Rana in the athletics. Chabi Lal Chaudhary will take part in the event as Rana’s runner guide.

Meanwhile, a 16-member jumbo team of Nepali officials are accompanying the two Nepali athletes in the Paralympics.
