KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education has issued a circular to all the District Education Offices directing them for the implementation of the “Institutional School Criteria and Operation Directives – 2069 BS”.

According to Director of the Department of Education Tek Narayan Pandey, the directives were formulated with the participation of the bodies concerned and the Ministry was hopeful of its effective enforcement. The directives were issued recently.

Mr Pandey said he was surprised that the Private and Boarding Schools’ Organization, Nepal (PABSON) which was in the directives draft taskforce has started voicing against the directives.

As per the directives, there shall be at least 22 students in a classroom, the school should allocate certain per cent of scholarship in a transparent manner and the school building shall be constructed on their own land. Similarly, better physical infrastructures including drinking water facility and toilet and facilities to teachers as per the promise have been sought in the guidelines.

A meeting of the PABSON on Sunday expressed discontent over some points included in the guidelines and decided to protest it in public.

PABSON General Secretary DK Dhungana said some points of the directives did not match with the PABSON recommendations.
