23 April, Kathmandu: The government has set up a mountaineering relief fund and increased the insurance amount.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the government would contribute five per cent of the revenue generated from mountaineers to the relief fund.

Likewise, the existing insurance amount of Rs 1,000,000 has been increased to Rs 1,500,000.

The Ministry has informed that the medical insurance amount has been increased applicable to Sherpa guide, high hill employees and local workers.

The government has made this decision listening to the demand of Nepal Mountaineering Association after the latter warned of launching fresh protest after 13 climbers were killed in avalanche in Everest base camp on April 18. RSS
