12 May, Kathmandu: The National Women Commission has today organized a model election for its monitors to be deployed in the local-level election going to be held in Province No. 3, 4 and 6 on May 14.

The mock-up election was held at the Commission’s premises. The model election was organized with the objective of imparting information about the ballot paper and the voting process to the NWC monitors so that they would be able to help out the voters if need be on the Election Day.

The Commission has assigned 351 monitors in the 34 districts of the three provinces to help make the election free, fair and rigging-free. It had also set up the Local Level Election Gender Monitoring Committee before this at the command of the Election Commission.

Under Secretary at the NWC Yemendra Upadhyay said the commission would prepare a report based on the on-site survey regarding the local-level election done by its election monitors in the 34 districts. He said the report would be submitted to the Election Commission with recommendations.

The monitoring would be carried out whether gender-based violence is seen in course of the local election taking place after a gap of nearly 20 years. RSS
