25 August, KATHMANDU: Nepali students, who were studying in Darjeeling, have started returning to Nepal and admitting in schools here due to the Gorkhaland movement in Darjeeling of West Bengal of India, according to Rastriya Samachar Samitee.
Thousands of students from Nepal reach Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong and other places in India with the belief that in Nepal there is no quality education like India due to various agitations and strikes here.
Robita Shrestha , hailed from Dharan, studying in Class 3 in Saint Helen Boarding School in Kurseong has been admitted at Galaxy Public School in Kathmandu recently.
The school established in 1890 is closed for until another notice due to the Gorkhaland movement.
Similarly, some students returning from India have been admitted at Shubhatara School in Lalitpur.
A movement is ongoing under the leadership of Gorkha Janamukti Morcha demanding separate state after Telangana state was recognised by dividing Andhra Pradesh in India.
The movement is ongoing after the party’s assistant secretary Binaya Tamang and other leaders were arrested. Whatever the reason, Nepalis students are happy that they have returned home.
Galaxy School Headmaster and N-PABSON Chairman Geeta Rana says some students have returned home after the movement, and they were ready to provide education as per the expectations of the students and parents.
PABSON General Secretary DK Dhungana said the return of students from India is positive. He said some 500,000 students are studying in Indian schools.
They go to India with the misconception that there is no good education in Nepal and because of open border, he said.
