3 March, Kathmandu: The government has made arrangement for the climbers, their assistants, sardars, high altitude workers, altitude cooks, guides, sardars and mountain guides to compulsorily submit at least 8 kg of destructible or indestructible garbage except for oxygen cylinders and human excreta from above the base camp at the Contact Office of the Mt. Everest Pollution Control Committee while going for climbing Mt Everest, the world’s highest peak.
The decision was made in view of the suggestions from discussion with stakeholders to make the garbage management effective of Mt. Everest and other high Himalayan areas, said the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation in a communiqué.
The committee will make arrangement to destroy that can be destroyed and those not destroyed will be managed properly in coordination of the Committee based at Namche and Kathmandu Metropolis in the presence of the Ministry, it is learnt.
If this is a success it will be implemented in other Himalayan peaks as well from next year. RSS
