3 August, Kathmandu: CPN (UML) leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said the parties were in an effort to embed the feedback collected from the people as much as possible and draft a new constitution encompassing agreements with most parties.

During talks with the US ambassador to Nepal, Peter W Bode at his residence, Nepal said the failure to hold local body elections had also caused hindrance in rescue, relief and reconstruction efforts in the aftermath of the massive earthquake. He told the US ambassador of his effort to hold the local elections at the earliest to strengthen the base of democracy.

On the occasion, ambassador Bode inquired of the problems seen in constitution making, the time to be taken in the process and the efforts at reaching agreements with other political parties. He also inquired of the time it will take for constructing necessary infrastructure during the reconstruction phase in the aftermath.

The two also touched on issues of contemporary political scenario and the future course of the country, said Madhav Nepal’s Personal Secretary Mohan Gautam. RSS
