4 May, Kathmandu: Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and main opposition CPN (UML)’s chair KP Sharma Oli held a meeting today, focusing on the contemporary political affairs.

During the meeting that took place at the Singha Durbar-based office of Speaker Onsari Gharti, the two exchanged views on how to implement the schedule of the second round local level election fixed for June 14 and address the constitutional provision for bringing the budget on Jeth 15 (May 29) in the Nepali calendar, the date that falls in the midst of the two elections.

The meeting mainly focused on the discussions on the issues whether to prepone the election or revise or postpone the constitutional deadline for announcing the budget, according to CPN (M C) leader Narayankaji Shrestha.

“The main opposition has showed its concern at the schedule of bringing the budget in the midst of two elections,” he said, adding that a solution regarding this issue would be sought through discussions with all parties and sides concerned.

The meeting also touched on the issues relating to the constitution amendment proposal and the impeachment motion registered in the parliament against Chief Justice (now suspended)Sushila Karki.

Terming the impeachment against Karki ‘wrong’, UML chair Oli urged the ruling parties to roll it back.

Talking to media after the meeting, the main opposition leader said the amendment proposal was expected to be brought to the House for voting, but had not introduced yet. He said the party was ready to face it.

Accusing the ruling parties of putting the parliament in problem by bringing unnecessary issues, he said the constitution had set Jeth 15 as the date for bringing the budget. RSS
