Biratnagar, April 22: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has spoken of the need of cooperation from all sides for promoting good governance, accountability and transparency in the country and for building a corruption-free society.
The Prime Minister said this while inaugurating the three-day Koshi Zone level trainers’ training held under the Mechi-Mahakali Awareness Campaign launched by the Nepali Congress.

Stating that the Nepali Congress has never done anything that made it bow down its head and it suffered a lot fighting for democracy in the country, the Prime Minister, who is also the president of the Nepali Congress, said the government should be given a year’s time so that the country would get a constitution with federalism within that period.

The Prime Minister urged the party leaders and cadres to work with positive thinking rather than complaining. He called on all to be aware that factionalism and seeking share on power pie within the party might undermine the peace and ultimately the country’s existence.

Calling upon all to work for constitution drafting to bring in investment, the Prime Minister said once the water resources sector is developed it would change the face of the country itself in 10 years. He said that foreign countries were willing to invest in Nepal and the country needed to attract this by framing a constitution as soon as possible.

Party vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel expressed the belief that the training would held make the party organization stronger.

Party general secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula called for forging unity in the party as only a united Nepali Congress could bring all the parties into the mainstream for drafting a constitution.

Minister for Information and Communications and party’s central committee member, Minendra Rijal, pointed out the need of gearing up the party for constitution writing by including all sides.

Referring to the bill on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, he said the Nepali Congress did not want to revisit the conflict-era agony and suffering and was not for granting blanket amnesty to the perpetrators.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport and central member Bimalendra Nidhi expressed the confidence that a new constitution would be formulated as the Constituent Assembly has already worked out the schedule for the same.

Nepali Congress Morang president and CA member Amrit Aryal presided over the programme which was also addressed by party leaders Arjun Narsingh KC, Sujata Koirala, Deepak Giri, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, Sujata Pariyar, Mina Subba and Surendra Pandey, among others. RSS
