Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has urged press to help the government in the implementation of the constitution, the prime need of the country.

“I want to appeal to the press to play a positive role in bringing together all political parties for the constitution implementation,” the Prime Minister and the CPN (Maoist Center) Chair said while inaugurating the first unity convention of the party-aligned Press Centre, Nepal in the capital today.

“The press should play a positive role in case there is a risk of the disintegration of national unity due to interests of any particular political party,” he said, urging the press to help hold three levels of elections on time.

He also acknowledged the role of the press in various movements in reinstating democracy in the country and bringing republic.

On the occasion, he took the opportunity to seek journalists’ role in the institutionalisation of achievements of democratic movements, calling on media to always disseminate fact-based news.

President of Federation of Nepali Journalists Dr Mahendra Bista said the issues of press should always be the priority of the government.

Programme chair and Press Center Nepal coordinator Govinda Acharya vowed to dedicate the Center activities towards the promotion of pro-people journalism.

Press Council Nepal chair Borna Bahadur Karki, Minimum Wages Fixation Committee chair Poshan KC, Press Union Nepal president Badri Sigdel and Press Chautari Nepal chair Ganesh Basnet wished for the success of the convention. RSS
