Problems in livelihood have surfaced due to decrease in income generation of the ordinary people in Kathmandu valley after the Gorkha earthquake.

Participants at a workshop seminar ‘Livelihood for Urban Community Reconstruction’ jointly organised by the Lumanti Nepal and Oxfam said so, while stressing on the need of bringing resettlement related programmes.

Stating that income generation has decreased after the earthquake, member at the National reconstruction Authority, Krishna Bhandari, said income-oriented programmes should be launched.

Similarly, Umesh Dahal of the Nepal Red Cross Society stressed the need of the launching income-generating programmes while Chairman of the Lumanti Nepal Lajana Manandhar said that the organisation launched income-generating programmes for 170 people, who faced problems in making their daily expenses meet in the Kathmandu valley.

Likewise, Programme Coordinator of Oxfam, Prabinman Singh, said that people, who have been facing problems in their livelihood, should be identified and self-reliant training provided.

He shared that self-reliant programme would be launched for the first time in seven municipalities in Kathmandu valley.

A study shows that poverty in Kathmandu valley has increased by three percent after the earthquake. RSS
