18 Feb, Kathmandu: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has emphasized on the need to respect people’s right to vote in periodic elections as guaranteed by the constitution.

In a message today on the occasion of the 67th National Democracy Day, she has said that it is our collective responsibility and duty to move ahead by internalizing good governance, peace and consensus, guided by the experiences and lessons from the various upheavals of our long history.

Paying heartfelt tributes to all the known and unknown martyrs who laid down their lives for the cause of democracy in the county, the President has also wished that the National Democracy Day 2017 inspires us all to internalize the fundamental norms and values of democracy.

In a similar message, Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun has drawn the attention of all towards the current need of taking the nation towards the path to prosperity based on peace, stability and sustainable economic development.

He has also emphasized on the need to fully implement the new constitution by holding local, provincial and general elections by January next year. “I wish that this historical day motivates all the Nepalis to forge a national unity and take the country towards the speedy path of economic development,” the Vice-president has said in the message.
