18 August, KATHMANDU: The different political parties of Darjeeling have decided to intensify their movement demanding a separate Gurkhaland state in India.

The parties have decided to put pressure on the Embassy of India in Kathmandu today, according to the sources belonging to the Darjeeling based parties. They are staging a sit-in protest in front of the embassy at Lainchaur in Kathmandu at 5:00 PM today.

The people from Darjeeling will participate in the protest programme. The people of Darjeeling are on protest after the Indian government recently recognised a new state–Telangana adjoining Andhra Pradesh.

The different eight parties have formed Gurkhaland Joint Action Committee in order to intensify their movement. The committee formed on Friday will gear up its movement from Monday, by calling closure strikes.

Meanwhile, two women of Darjeeling, belonging to Gurkhaland movement, died of a road accident and three injured at Panch Mile of India, near Pashupatinagar of Ilam in Nepal, on Saturday evening. They were returning from Darjeeling to their homes. The deceased are identified as Anjana Bamjan, vice president of Janamukti Nari Morcha, Mirik and its central member Bindu Tolangi. The critically injured are being treated at hospital. A vehicle they are riding fell down 300m off  road, according to police.
