29 June, Kathmandu: Despite some sporadic incidents, the second phase of the local level elections has concluded peacefully at large, said a report prepared by Informal Service Center (INSEC) Nepal.

In all 35 districts under Provinces 1, 5 and 7 where the second round of polls has recently been concluded, around 11,000 voters that were added after 2072 B.S. were found without their voter identity cards and around 500 voters were excluded from the voters’ list although they were accommodated in 2070 B.S, said the report prepared after monitoring the polls.

Number of invalid votes may increase as many voters were found to have been confused before the voting began without proper voter’s education, the report said. The participation of women in the polls was encouraging while people with disabilities found it hard without disabled-friendly polling stations, it added.

Ballot papers used in Udayapur district was found to be of low quality. There were a total of 6 million 432 thousand 765 voters in the 35 districts where the polls have recently concluded. There are a total of one Metropolitan City, seven Sub Metropolitan Cities, 111 municipalities and 215 rural municipalities. Approximately 62,000 candidates of different political parties are vying for the total 15,038 positions of different kinds including mayor, deputy mayor and ward chairperson and members. RSS
