15 April, Kanchanpur: The under construction Tanakpur-Mahendranagar Link Road is facing budget crunch.

Although the road construction was started four years ago, it has not been blacktopped yet due to budget crisis.

Engineer of the Road Division Office, Mahendranagar, Dilananda Giri, said that different works including opening track and gravelling, among others from Bramhadev to Jhansi of Mahendranagar were completed, the road has not been blacktopped due to budget crunch.

Giri said that road upgrading works are halted for lack of sufficient budget. He added that Rs. 15 million was allocated for constructing culvert and drain, among others in the current fiscal year 2070/71, but it was insufficient for the same.

He further said that as per the Nepal-India agreement, India had agreed to construct the three-meter road section from Tanakpur to Bramhadev and to blacktop it, it has not forwarded any works yet. RSS
