Kathmandu, Nov. 4: Chairman of the Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi today held consultations with top leaders of some political parties about the upcoming Constituent Assembly election and its preparations.

During the consultative meeting, matters relating to the preparations for holding the election in peaceful, fear-free and impartial atmosphere, healthy competition among the parties taking part in the election and security were discussed.

The meeting stressed on the need of healthy competition among the political parties in the election, agreeing to call on poll-opposing parties  not to organise any banda or strikes during the election period as it deprives the people of their voting rights.

Top leaders from the UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), Madhesi Janadhikar Forum ( Democratic) and Sanghiya Samajbadi Party were present in the  meeting that took place at the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar in the capital.

Talking to media persons following the meeting, Minister for Information and Communications and government Spokesperson Madhav Prasad Poudel said the consultative meeting held with the top brass of some political parties discussed about the preparations the government has made so far for the upcoming CA election.

The meeting concluded that the parties participating in the election should engage in a healthy competition. The attention of the meeting was also drawn towards bandas and strikes announced by some parties targeting the November 19 election.

Concluding that such activities may cause an adverse impact on the election going to be held peacefully and clip the people’s rights, the meeting agreed to appeal to the bodies concerned not to organise or encourage such activities, Spokesperson Poudel said.

Similarly, Nepali Congress Vice President Ramchandra Poudel said the meeting assured the parties that the government was committed to conducting the November 19 election in a peaceful and impartial manner.

“Government statements sometimes look like statements from the UN Security Council and create illusion, and during the meeting, I requested the Chairman that this will not happen in the days ahead,” he said.

The prime agenda of the country is election and the Nepali people want to see the successful completion of the CA election and that is why it should be conducted on the announced date, he said.

Any banda and shutdown announced during the election period will do no good for the nation as it will deprive the people of their right to voting.

Likewise, CPN (UML) Vice Chairperson Bidya Bhandari said the Chairman of the Council of Ministers urged the political leaders to help the government hold the CA election in a free, fair and impartial manner.

The election will be held on the announced date, people are excited for taking part in the election and the poll-supporting parties are also busy in election campaigning with enthusiasm, she said.

Sanghiya Samajbadi Party General Secretary Rajendra Shrestha said meeting focused on healthy political competition in the election. RSS
