Kathmandu: Following the attack on migrant workers in Malaysia and bowing to pressure from family members, the Deep Gateway Overseas manpower company has sought security for the injured and the other workers sent by it.

At least two Nepalis—Rajiv Biswakarma of Samari-4, Nuwakot and Ram Lal Shah of Chandranighapur in Rautahat—were critically injured when a gang of around 150 people attacked them with lethal weapons at a hostel in the Pasir Gudang section of Johor Bahru on Sunday evening. On Monday, the Malaysian police arrested nine Nepalis and three foreigners in connection with the incident.

The manpower agency on Wednesday appealed to the Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies (NAFEA) to hold talks with the Nepali Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and Malaysian companies concerned and seek security for the migrant workers. The two injured and six of the arrested were sent to the country by Deep Overseas.

“We are in constant touch with the Malaysian companies and the Nepali Embassy in Malaysia,” proprietor of the manpower company Pabitra Sapkota told the Post. Asked if any of the workers has gone missing, she said the list sent by the company has confirmed the presence of all of them.

An official at the Nepali Embassy said the arrested Nepalis will be released on Monday after they are produced in a court.

As social networking sites and some Nepali blogs went abuzz with romours on Wednesday that some Nepali workers might have been killed in Sunday’s attack, the Nepali Embassy and officials at the Foreign Ministry in Nepal confirmed that all the workers involved in the incident are safe.
