23 May, Kathmandu: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said the role Yuvakavi Siddhicharan Shrestha played for democracy was unforgettable.

The works not only contributed to Nepali language and literature, but also to the democracy, she said during a programme organized to mark the 106th birth anniversary of poet Shrestha.

On the occasion, Professor Dr Basudev Tripathi was honoured with the Siddhicharan Prize. The Prize carries Rs 100,000.

Similarly, journalists Jay Dev Bhattarai (Gorkhapatra), Pushpahari Kyamparai (Nepal Television) and Nares Bir Shakya (freelancer) were honoured with the Siddhicharan Journalism Award. The prize carries a purse of 25,000 each.

The Rana regime had annouced 18 years of jail term to Yugkavi Shrestha for publishing a poem named ‘Kranti Sambhav Chha’ (Revolution Is Possible) in the Sharada magazine in 1993BS. RSS
