9 September, Kathmandu:

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Prakashman Singh has asked the civil servants to carry out their jobs by rising above the partisan interests.

At an annual review meeting of the eastern, mid-western and far-western development regions of the local development ministry organised here today, DPM Singh urged the officials to work in accordance with the rules and procedures.

Saying that the local development ministry was directly linked to the grassroots level people, Singh argued that the officials are required to deliver the services to the people as per their needs.

DPM Singh also said that elections to the local bodies would be conducted soon after the constitution promulgation.

As the Interim Constitution cannot rule the country for long, the new constitution would be promulgated sooner by incorporating maximum political parties.

Secretary at the ministry Madhav Prasad Regmi complained that the civil servants were obliged to shoulder the entire works of the local bodies in absence of the elected representatives.

Regmi argued that major projects should be given priority instead of the small-scale ones.

The ministry said that, of the allocated Rs 57.44 billion amount, it spent Rs 47.21 billion in the last fiscal year. RSS
