15 May, Gaushala: Drinking water shortage has hit hard different VDCs in the northern belt of Mahottari district due to scorching summer heat and drought.

As many as 50 wells have dried up in Pashupatinagar VDC alone while people are reeling under acute shortage of drinking water in Kisannagar, Bijalpura, Hatilet, Laxminiya, Belgachhi, and Bardibas, among other VDCs in the district.

Of the 80 wells at Pashupatinagar, 50 have completely dried up while 30 others are on the verge of drying up, said Rajdev Mahato, a local. The villagers are forced to wait in long queue even to fill up their vessels, added Dhaniram Mahato.

A member of the family has to spend a whole day to fetch a pitcher of drinking water, said Rammurat Mahato. RSS
