20 Sept, Kathmandu: The reports of two committees were presented in the second meeting of the Legislature-Parliament today.

The reports presented include the report of the committee on the National Medical Education Bill and that of the committee on the National Women Commission Bill.

Member of the Women, Children, Senior Citizens and Social Welfare Committee, Dhaniram Poudel, presented the two reports on behalf the Committee president Ranju Kumari Jha.

Parliament approves proposals Similarly, the parliament in its second meeting today unanimously approved the proposal seeking the parliament consider the ‘Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Bill-2074 BS’.

Home Minister Janardan Sharma had presented the bill.  Likewise, the parliament unanimously approved the proposal seeking the parliament’s consideration on the Bill Related to the Election of the National Assembly Members, 2074 BS.

Lawmaker of the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, Prem Suwal raised an objection pointing to the lack of a quorum in parliament soon after Home Minister Sharma presented a proposal seeking the parliament’s consideration on the Bill Related to the Election of the President and the Vice President, 2074 BS.

Speaker Onsari Gharti sounded the signal bell and ordered the Parliament Secretariat staff to count the number of lawmakers present after lawmaker Suwal’s objection. However, Suwal’s note of objection was blunted after it was found that 175 lawmakers were found to be present in the meeting after the counting. One hundred and forty-eight is the number required for the quorum.

Various bills passed The parliament meeting has unanimously passed the Bill Related to the Remuneration and Facilities of the President and the Vice President, 2074 BS, along with the Good Governance and Monitoring Committee report. Similarly, the parliament unanimously passed the ‘Bill Related to Local Governance-2074 BS’ along with the report of the Development Committee.

The meeting also unanimously passed the Bill on the Operation of Local Government, 2074 BS.
Minister for Land Reform and Management Gopal Dahit had presented the two bills on behalf the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development, Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar.

The parliament passed with a majority the Education (Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2074 BS presented by Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Gopalman Shrestha.
