19 Dec, Kathmandu:
A meeting among three major political parties – the Nepali Congress, CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Centre) – has concluded inconclusively.
The meeting held at the Parliament Secretariat ended inconclusively after the main opposition CPN (UML) denied to forward the constitution amendment bill registered by the government in the parliament.
Following the meeting, UML vice-chair Bamdev Gautam shared that his party was opposed to forward the bill terming it as unconstitutional and having the evil intention of disintegrating the national sovereignty. He further shared that the parliament obstruction would be continued unless government withdrew the proposal. Leader Gautam added that the opposition’s obstruction would depend upon the behaviour of the government.
Deputy Prime Minister and Maoist Centre leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara said that the main opposition UML reiterated to withdraw the proposal. He added that they held discussions on constitutional amendment bill and elections as well but the UML opposed the bill calling for its withdrawal. He said that the government expressed not to withdraw the bill instead seeking to table it in the parliament for the decision.
Nepali Congress senior Leader Ram Chandra Poudel said that they agreed to call the next meeting saying that these issues should be discussed and finalized in a package.
Also present in the meeting were, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, UML chair KP Sharma Oli and Maoist Centre chair and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. RSS
