2 Nov, Baitadi : The nationwide Vitamin A campaign is being held in the district today. Under the two-day programme, vitamin A capsules and deworming tablets will be administered to around 24,000 children of the district under the age of five, said Mamata Joshi, public health nurse at the District Public Health Office. Infants and children aged six to 59 months are administered vitamin A capsules to support their rapid growth, and to help combat infections.
Inadequate intakes of vitamin A may lead to vitamin A deficiency which can cause visual impairment in the form of night blindness, and may increase the risk of illness and death from childhood infections including measles.
The total 831 female health volunteers will be mobilised for the programme all over the district. A camp will be set up at every village of rural municipality ward, and one can reach the camp or contact female health volunteers to administer children vitamin A capsules, Joshi said. RSS
