May 15, Kathmandu: The Women Human Rights Defenders (WOREC Nepal) organised a march here today calling for an end to the sexual violence and for guaranteeing justice, equality and human rights.

The march that began from local Bhrikutimandap converged into a corner meet at Bhadrakali after passing through Ramshah Path, Putali Sadak, Bagbazaar, Ratnapark and Purano Buspark.

Women’s Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC) has been conducting various programmes for exerting pressure and raising awareness at different times, demanding immediate amendment to the existing legislation against rape, setting up fast-track justice mechanism and guaranteeing 50 per cent representation of women on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, among others.

Addressing the corner meeting, human rights activist Gauri Pradhan underlined the need of amending the existing laws to ensure prompt justice to the victims.

President of WOREC Dr Renu Rajbhandari called for the implementation of the agreements her organization reached with the government representatives in the past and ensuring the human rights of women. RSS
