The District Livestock Office, Ilam, has allocated Rs 3.2 million to provide as grants to the youth farmers for rearing cow, buffalo, pig and goat in the current fiscal year. Likewise, the youth would get the grants for poultry farming.

The amount would be used for setting up farms, strengthening shelter for animals, market management and purchasing equipments.

Senior Livestock Development Officer Pashupati Dhungana said that three small cow farms would be given Rs 200,000 each while farmers keeping more than 18 cows would be doled out Rs 300,000 for strengthening of cowsheds.

Likewise, three piggeries would be provided with Rs 300,000 and two goat farms would be given Rs 400,000 each under the heading of Youth-Targeted Livestock Development Programme. The Office said that at least 20 goats should be reared to get the grant amount.

The Office launched the programme to lure the returnee migrant workers and educated youth towards commercial livestock farming.

Likewise, Rs 200,000 each would be given to two meat shop owners and two dairy farmers.

The Office further said that 50 per cent in grant would be given for the purchase of the chaff cutter machines. The chaff cutter machines would be distributed from the Livestock Service Centres located in different parts of the district and the District Livestock Office. RSS
