24 August, BHAKTAPUR: Poultry farmers clashed with police in Bhaktapur on Friday.

The chicken farmers were trying to padlock the Bhaktapur District Livestock Office when the cops intervened and the clash eruppted.

The poultry farmers are on protest putting forth various demands, including increment in the relief amount for the culled fowls.

The police rained batons on the agitating farmers when they were trying to padlock the District Livestock Office. About a dozen people, including police personnel, were injured in the clash.

Wounded poultry farmer Jagat Laxmi Sujukhu is receiving treatment at Bhaktapur Hospital.

Head constable Shekhar Raj Giri and constables Badri Paudel and Birendra Tamang were injured in the incident, according to Metropolitan Police Circle Bhaktapur.

Protesting farmers have threatened that they will not allow the government to cull their fowls if they are not provided with compensation as per the market value of chickens.
