27 June, Ratnanagar (Chitwan): A female rhino was found dead today at Kumroj Buffer Zone Community Forest in eastern sector of the Chitwan National Park (CNP).

CNP Information Officer and Assistant Conservation Officer Nurendra Aryal said that the sick one-horned rhino of around 30 years died at 11:00 am this afternoon.

Stating that the rhino was found dead with its fractured neck, senior veterinarian at the CNP Kamal Gaire added that the female rhino died after collapsing on the ground while running away during mating.

Some days ago, a dead calf of rhino was also found near Icharni river of the same community forest while devouring by a crocodile.

Dr Gaire assumed that the female rhino that died today could be the mother of the same calf.

The number of rhinos is 605 in CNP in the latest count. RSS
